Trying to decide what scene to paint over each map I try to capture a feeling of that particular state without covering up too many places

This reproduction has the raised silver embellishment on the mountain peaks as well as the foothills

I choose a distant passage through the trees of this lake scene to lead the viewer deeper into the painting

The ground below the mountains was textured first and the sky has the texture of the canvas weave peeking through it. The clouds and the water feature under the mountains were rendered using acid oxidized copper paint to make it patina. I knew when I did the acid over the aluminum leaf it would eat away some of the metal so I painted it the background
