This is a clear glass ambrotype behind a mat and cover glass, with folded piece of black paper in the case behind the image. The mat is a Hayden mat with a patent date on its underside of October 1855, it is not a later British mat. Ambrotype has some age related perimeter darkening, some light surface issues, and a crack in the upper left area does not jump
